Australian Reps 2019 outline
Jonathan Bretherton has been selected in the Australian U21 Men’s hockey team to play in the International 8 Nations Tournament to be held in Madrid, Spain. Tour dates are being finalised with departure on either 3rd or 4th June, returning on 18th or 19th June with the tournament running from 10th June. Other nations competing are Belgium, Holland, Germany, India, Spain, England and Austria and this will give Jonno the opportunity to play against some of the best U21 teams in the world.
Andrew Smith, Director of Coaching MCC Hockey Men’s Section has also been selected for this tournament in the role of Assistant Coach. This follows on from Andrew’s recent appointment as Assistant coach to the Australian U18 Men’s team that competed in the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in October last year. This is a terrific recognition of Andrew’s coaching abilities, particularly working with young players on the rise.
Jonathan Bretherton is a VIS scholarship holder and a member of the National Junior Men’s Squad. He has recently participated in a National Training Camp in Melbourne and played matches against Chile (Aus U21 vs Chile Men’s Team) as part of this program. As part of the VIS program, Jonathan also played matches against Chile and then in an 8 game series against the Korean Men’s team. Jonathan has also recently toured Holland and Belgium as part of a VIS/Hockey Victoria team playing against the Belgium U21 Men’s team, Rotterdam HC and several Dutch and Belgium 2nd grade teams.
