Day #5 – 7 Days of the Women of MCC Hockey for IWD 2023.

Charlotte Balster

Charlotte played her debut women’s season in 2022, consistently filling midfield roles in the PLR squad after coming through the junior ranks.  Charlotte joined MCC Hockey through her Mum, long time hockey player and current MCC Womens Chair Lisa Balster “I played school hockey and asked if I could join a hockey club and Mum decided to bring me down to Melb High School to see if I enjoyed it – I loved it!”

Echoing a consistent theme this week, it’s the people and relationships that keep charlotte involved with the club “One reason why I am so involved with the club is the people I have met and the friendships that I have made along the way!”

We asked Charlotte about a female role model who inspires her, and she told us “A female role model I think has shaped who I am today is Susie Wolff, Director of Formula 1 Academy –  she is an inspiration to me and so many females as she has an amazing career in the male-dominated world of motorsport. She shows that with determination you can get anywhere in life if you really want to do it”

On her proudest MCC moment. Charlotte cited her first PL game “My proudest moment at MCC was playing in my first Premier League match and getting my shirt presented by the captain Mel Casey”

Charlotte also shared her reflections on how people can embrace equity in sport and encourage women and girls participation “One really simple way is to show visible support to all females in sport. I believe that the easiest way to do that is to come along and watch and support women’s hockey”.  We couldn’t agree more, and it’s another great reason to get along to watch some outstanding women’s matches this season!
